About this place
The contrast between the crisp, fragrant cookie topping and soft centre is a defining feature of Melonpan Kobo, in the north-exit shopping street near Ōokayama Station. The plain melon bread is easy to pick up at an approachable price. It is enjoyable while still warm from the oven, but keeps a satisfying bite even after it has cooled a little.
There is plenty of choice on the shelves, too. Melon bread comes in flavours including chocolate, maple, matcha and cinnamon, as well as fruit-inspired varieties such as strawberry, blueberry and orange. It is fun to try a few to suit the mood of the day. Some varieties sell out by late afternoon, so it is worth stopping by earlier if you have a particular flavour in mind.
Beyond melon bread, the selection includes pastries such as fermented-butter croissants, apple and raspberry pie, and mini apple pies. The crisp, light melon bread rusks are not overly sweet and make a handy treat with tea at home or a small gift to take along.
Everything is sold to take away, with quick and straightforward purchases, and PayPay is accepted. It is a convenient place to pick up a favourite bun while out for a stroll or on the way home.
